History
Australia is part of the continent of New World - the Oceania. Despite being inhabited by aborigines for more than 40 thousand years, only two centuries ago began its colonization by Europeans. Geographically to the world, Australia was an invisible continent, a wide Earth strangely disregarded by cartographers, with nothing to justify its absence in world-maps. Australia became independent of the British Empire in 1942, but it is part of the Commonwealth (Commonwealth Nations).

Most important cities
Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, Adelaide e Camberra.

Policy
Australia is a constitutional monarchy. The Government comes from a parliament elected by universal suffrage.

Geography
Most of Australia is composed by deserts or semi-arid areas — 40% of the land mass is covered by sand dunes. Formed by a huge block won from the Coast, Australia has some variety in terms of topography and landscape. It’s in this slump that one can find the underground water. Occupying all the Western part, from Eastern Cape York Peninsula to Tasmania, comes up a succession of modest mountains and plateaus. This continues to East through the Australian Alps, which have the highest summits of the country.

Climate
Only the Southeast and Southwest corners have temperate weather and a moderately fertile soil. The northern part of the country has a tropical climate, but there are also various regions where the climate is more. While most of the country is subtropic dryclimate, in general, the regions situated in the north of the Tropic of Capricorn have tropical climate with the rainy season in summer months.

Wild fauna and flora
Australia has great diversity of wild fauna and flora. There is a body of the government with the purpose of protecting the flora and the fauna.

Fauna
The isolation of Australia has favoured the evolution of fauna that does not resemble any other on the planet. It is characterised specially by the presence of marsupials (animals with a pouch where they mothers carry their young), in which kangaroos or koalas (live exclusively from eucalypts sheets). As far as fauna is concerned, there are whales, dolphins, penguins, sea-wolves, of various types and species. But carnivore, there is a single specie, Dingo, or wild dog. Snakes are common and crocodiles only exist in tropical areas.

Flora
In the area of the Australian Mountains there are woods of eucalypts, acacias, cedar and pine-trees, while in low lands the Savannah, the prairies and vegetation typical from the wisent predominates. In the most arid regions and in deserts a spiny flour known as "scrub" prevails. However, in the Western region there are more than 6,000 varieties of flowers that bloom between September and November.

Economy
The economy is very diverse: the industry develops activities related to the primary sector, such as goods, mainly in the production of sheep and derivatives, as wool. In addition to wines, tobacco, wheat and mineral exploration, the activities which require greater technology, as for machinery and equipment industry, chemical industry, metallurgical, iron industry and petrochemistry. Australian exportations also include goods, meat and wheat, and minerals, as lateritic, lead, nickel, manganese, and gold and silver.

Culture
Much of the culture of Australia is derived from European roots and more recently, by American roots, but Australian distinctive characteristics have evolved from the aboriginal environment and culture, and neighbours’ influence. The force and originality of arts in Australian films, opera, painting, music, theatre, dance, and arts – are achieving international recognition.

Gastronomy
The gastronomy in Australia has a lot of Asian influence.

Currency – Australian dollar
The Australian dollar is the sixth most used currency in foreign trade. It is popular amongst currency dealers due to the lack of government intervention in the market abroad.

Religion
Christians 74% (Catholics 27,3%, Anglicans, 23,8%, United Methodist Church 8,2%, Presbyterians 4,3%, other Protestant 7,6%, Orthodox 2,8%), Islamic 0,9%, Buddhist 0,8%, Judaic 0,4%, Hindus 0,3%, without membership 12,9%, other 10,7% (1991 census).

Exchange
The time zone 10 hours plus than Portugal and it also has summer time.

Events and Ballades

Australian day – it is the day of Australia, celebrated with various attractions throughout the city and many picnics in the parks. It’s on the 26th of January.

I did this paperwork on Australia and I got to know more about this country. I found it interesting that it was invisible to the world, although some people went around the coast but did not land in it to visit or explore it.
Its currency is considered the sixth most used in foreign trade. In Australia there are a variety of over 650 species of birds and several species of aquatic animals. I found out that there are about eleven religions, but Christianity is the predominant with 74%.
It is, in fact, a country that I would like to go to and explore, opposing to the sea explorers attitude.
